Cadillac Shocks & Strut Service Near San Diego, CA

When you’re out driving, the system that helps keep your tires in good contact with the road or surface that you are driving on is your suspension. The suspension is comprised of springs, shocks, and struts that work together to ensure that your ride is smooth, but it also helps provide stability for steering and braking. Like all systems in your vehicle, this system needs to be maintained so it remains effective. If you live in or around San Diego, Oceanside, or San Clemente, you can bring your vehicle into Premier Cadillac of Carlsbad for quality shocks and struts service.

How Does the Suspension Work?

The suspension in your vehicle has three main components, the first of which is your struts. The struts support the springs which absorb bumps and road impact. Then there are the shock absorbers, or shocks, that further limit the bounce you feel when you drive by absorbing residual movement in the springs. If the suspension is not maintained properly, unexpected potholes, gravel and dirt roads, rough surfaces, or random debris can cause your vehicle to bounce. Contact with the surface would be impaired and a loss of control could occur.
If your shocks and struts are damaged or blown, it can cause your vehicle to bounce excessively and when your tires leave the driving surface, there is a lack of stability. This instability can cause you to lose control of your vehicle, which can be a danger to you, your passengers, and others on the road.

Replacing Shocks and Struts

Well-maintained shocks and struts add to the safety of your vehicle, by providing stability with good contact with the road. Shocks and struts should be inspected regularly so you can keep problems from occurring. So, how do you know if you need shock and strut service? There are some basic signs you may notice when you drive or if you visually inspect them.

Signs Observed While Driving

  • Too much bounce.
  • Nosediving when stopping.
  • Leaning and swaying when turning corners, negotiating curves, or changing lanes.
  • Too little bounce, or a stiff ride.
  • Noisiness when steering, and poor steering response.
  • Noticeable instability when travelling at higher speeds.

Visual Signs

  • Flat sides on the tires.
  • Unevenly worn areas on your tires.
  • Visible damage to shock and strut bodies or fluid leaks.
  • Mounts and bushings that are corroded, broken, or otherwise damaged or dented.

How Often Should I Change My Shocks and Struts?

Maintenance on these components will vary according to your driving habits and conditions, make, model, and year, and other factors. It is best to consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for recommended maintenance intervals. If you have lost your manual, ask our expert technicians to inspect your suspension. They will be able to tell you if you need service.
